The product

Compliance review appraisers can defend years later.

North Star helps licensed real-estate appraisers check their work files against hundreds of published rules — FHA, VA, conventional, and state law — before the work goes out the door. Every evaluation is sealed in a tamper-evident record, so an appraiser can prove exactly what was checked, when, and against which rules.

What we built

Every layer, from rule engine to app stores.

Rule engine & audit chain

A Rust decision engine that evaluates work files against versioned rule catalogs, plus a cryptographically sealed audit record for every evaluation. Fast, deterministic, and built to be trusted under scrutiny.

Product web app

The appraiser-facing application: assemble a work file, run the checks, read plain-language findings, and seal the record. Designed to be readable on a tablet in the field.

Marketing site

The public site — product story, rule library, pricing, and signup — built as a fast static site and deployed automatically from its repo through Cloudflare Pages.

Mobile companion

An iOS and Android app for field work: capture photos and voice notes on site, with automatic transcription, synced straight into the work file.

Desktop agent

A small desktop companion that gathers evidence from the appraiser's own machine and syncs it to the platform — no manual uploads.

AI features

AI assistance built in where it earns its keep — behind a provider abstraction, so the platform isn't married to any single AI vendor.

The method

Proof that spec-first is fast.

North Star wasn't built in one big push. It was built in 200+ small milestones — each one specced, built, reviewed, merged, and deployed before the next began.

  1. One milestone at a time. Each milestone has a written spec and a branch. Nothing stacks on unmerged work, so the main branch always ships.
  2. Gates on every merge. Formatting, linting, tests, and golden-file checks run in CI on every pull request. If a gate fails, it doesn't merge.
  3. Deploys are boring. Merges flow to AWS and Cloudflare automatically. Release day is every day, which means no release days at all.

Platform, website, app, or all three — we'll help you write the spec and then ship it the same way.
